WHY MAKE A CHANGE
Every year, trillions of single-use plastic products are consumed and thrown away — often ending up on beaches and in oceans harming marine life. What’s more, the current culture of consumption is not sustainable. Extracting and processing raw materials requires an exceptional amount of energy. It also causes a high rate of pollution for very limited use, with many non-biodegradable items ending up in landfills.
The idea for LastTissue came one day when we talked about our grandparents' habits and how almost none of them used any single-use. Apparently all of us had a grandparent that used a handkerchief, but we felt it needed an upgrade if we needed to replace billions of single-use tissues every year.
Reusable, but less nasty and so we invented the LastTissue. We kind of think of it as if a handkerchief and a tissue had a baby.
We launched LastTissue on Kickstarter in January 2020 it was our second product to launch on Kickstarter. More than 14,000 people backed the LastTissue, which made us super happy and humble. Also, this was a way of proving that our mission of eliminating single-use items is something that you deemed as important as we did. This is a great motivator for us to keep up the work to eliminate single-use items.
We also made an agreement in the team, that going forward all products should be verified by our Crowdfunding community before being launched to mass retail, as a proof of concept. So far we’ve stuck to that plan.
The LastTissues are made from GOT certified organic cotton and can each be used for approximately 520 times. Machine wash the used LastTissues at 140°F / 60°C in a (LastObject) Laundry Bag.
The case for LastTissue and LastTissue Box is made of food grade silicone, it is extremely durable, and will last you a lifetime. Silicone is made from silica (which is derived from sand), carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen.
Within the first few days of the LastTissue Kickstarter campaign we could tell by all the comments that there was a huge demand for a bigger box of tissues for the house or the flat.
So as soon as the campaign was fulfilled we started designing a bigger version, after multiple designs and prototypes we ended up with LastTissue Box, a table top version.
You probably remember your grandad's handkerchief he always had in his pocket? Even though it wasn’t the most sanitary solution it was very environmentally friendly. With LastTissue we want to bring the handkerchief back into the mainstream. And by giving you a more sanitary way of keeping your used ones separated from the clean ones.
Single-use is never a good thing for Mother Earth, in the case of a tissue, trees need to be cut down, transported to a paper manufacturer, made into paper (which requires large amounts of water), packed in plastic, shipped to a warehouse, transported to a retail store, bought and transported home to be used once and then thrown out. It’s simply a huge waste of resources. Did you know that the first modern single-use item was invented in 1872 and was a detachable shirt collar? This started the trend of single-use products that our generation needs to put to a stop.
